Specialist in Orthodontics
Dr Deans graduated from Glasgow Dental Hospital and School in 1995, and is a registered specialist in orthodontics.
Upon graduation he joined the Army and served as a Dental Officer in Germany, Cyprus, Northern Ireland, Gibraltar and the Former Republic of Yugoslavia over a seven-year period. He then worked as a senior house officer in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth and Royal Navy Hospital, Haslar. During this time he passed the membership examination in the Faculty of Dental Surgery at both the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and England in 2003.
Dr Deans was then selected to undertake training as a specialist registrar in orthodontics at Cardiff University Dental Hospital and School. He gained his membership examination in orthodontics at the Royal College of Surgeons in 2007, as well as a Master of Science degree (with distinction) from Cardiff University. Upon qualifying as a specialist he worked for three years as the specialist orthodontist in the Defence Dental Services Centre for Restorative Dentistry in Hampshire. Within this position, he provided treatment for adult servicemen and women as well as orthodontic treatment for military families in Germany and Gibraltar.
Dr Deans retired from the Army in 2010 to further develop his orthodontic skills by continuing his career in the hospital orthodontic services at Leeds Dental Institute, York Hospital and, currently, Glasgow Dental Hospital.
Dr Deans is an examiner at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and has an interest in providing teaching for undergraduate dental students and continual professional development for colleagues working in general practice.
